Serbia establishes SVI union for higher-education employees

Employees from four Serbian universities have founded a new sectoral union for higher education workers, naming it SVI.

The founding members come from the University of Belgrade, the University of Arts in Belgrade, the University of Novi Sad and the University of Niš. The union’s registration process is under way before the relevant authorities, after starting on July 31, 2026.

The SVI union emerged from the need for more active, responsible and effective union action in higher education.

SVI says it was created to provide more active, responsible and effective union representation in higher education. Its founders said employees already face numerous problems that directly affect their economic and professional security, despite the presence of other forms of union organization in the sector.
