Serbia Expands Probe into Zemun Gym Grenade Attack, Two More Arrested

Authorities in Serbia have broadened their investigation into a grenade attack on a fitness club in Zemun, arresting two additional suspects. The Belgrade Higher Public Prosecutor's Office announced the expansion of the probe, which now includes a 22-year-old and a 44-year-old individual, both of whom have been placed in pre-trial detention for 30 days by the Higher Court.

The two new suspects, identified as U.S. (22) and M.P. (44), reportedly exercised their legal right to remain silent during questioning. They are suspected of unauthorized production, possession, carrying, and trafficking of weapons and explosives in complicity. U.S. faces an additional charge for the same offense.

The investigation suggests that U.S. may have illegally obtained an "M-75" hand grenade and subsequently handed it over to S.B. (19), who is already in custody and is accused of throwing the device into the fitness club on March 23. The prosecutor's office stated there are grounds to suspect that U.S. and M.P. also illegally possessed an "M-75" hand grenade at a family home in Grocka, found in an armchair used by M.P.

The initial suspect, S.B., faces charges including unauthorized carrying of an "M-75" hand grenade and causing public danger. He allegedly took a taxi to Branka Pešića street, then walked to the fitness club, where he activated and threw the grenade before fleeing. The explosion shattered gym windows and damaged four parked vehicles and a scooter outside the facility.
