Serbia faces critical Danube levels, National Emergency Team seeks mitigation

Serbia's National Emergency Response Team convened to address a critical hydrological situation marked by historically low water levels on the Danube River. The meeting focused on the severe impact on the Danube-Tisa-Danube (DTD) Hydrosystem and explored strategies to mitigate the consequences.

Following the meeting, the team issued a press release emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring and a coordinated response from all relevant institutions. They recommended that public water management companies, Vode Vojvodine and Srbijavode, continue implementing measures to keep the DTD Hydrosystem operational, lessen the effects of low water levels, and ensure a stable water supply for users.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic chaired the meeting and instructed all state bodies and agencies to proceed with available measures within their jurisdictions. He stressed the importance of a unified state-system approach, expecting full coordination and utilization of all resources to minimize the impact on people, the economy, and natural resources. The team also plans to increase monitoring of how low water levels affect the power grid, shipping, and overall hydrological conditions to enable timely action as the situation evolves.
