Serbia hosts talks on cooperation and the economy at Non-Aligned Movement anniversary summit

Belgrade’s anniversary gathering for the Non-Aligned Movement has become a series of bilateral talks for Serbia, with infrastructure, energy, agriculture and defense among the areas discussed with visiting officials.

Prime Minister Djuro Macut met India’s Minister of Parliamentary and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, and said the friendship between Serbia and India rests on a strong historical foundation. Rijiju said India wanted to expand cooperation with Serbia, especially in infrastructure and defense, and reaffirmed New Delhi’s support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Macut also held talks with Mozambique’s Prime Minister Maria Benvinda Levi. He pointed to potential cooperation in agriculture, energy, construction, information technology and tourism. Levi thanked Serbia for its hospitality and said the meeting gave fresh impetus to relations between the two countries. She also reiterated Mozambique’s commitment to a neutral foreign policy.

India aims to expand cooperation with Serbia as much as possible, particularly in infrastructure and defense.

In a meeting with Cameroon’s Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Macut discussed political dialogue and cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, infrastructure, sports and IT. Dion Ngute highlighted the 60-year diplomatic relationship between Serbia and Cameroon and proposed joint investments and closer links between companies.

The talks took place during a two-day high-level summit in Belgrade marking 65 years since the first Non-Aligned Movement conference. Macut also gave the Cameroonian prime minister a jersey belonging to Serbian basketball star Nikola Jokic, whom Dion Ngute is described as a devoted fan of.
