Serbia's agricultural inspection tightens ice cream controls; urges caution with perishables during heat

Serbia's agricultural inspection significantly increased its oversight of ice cream and perishable food producers in June, conducting 62 inspections across the sector.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year's controls revealed a reduced rate of non-compliance concerning product traceability, hygiene standards, and accurate labeling when compared to previous years. This suggests a higher degree of adherence to regulations among manufacturers.

Minister Dragan Glamočić emphasized the ministry's commitment to maintaining a high level of food safety and consumer protection. "We expect all producers and sellers to consistently apply the prescribed measures, and the Ministry will continue enhanced inspections through July and August to ensure a high level of food safety in the market and protect consumer health," he stated.

The ministry also advised citizens to exercise particular caution during hot weather when purchasing, transporting, and storing easily perishable goods. Recommendations include buying exclusively from registered establishments, carefully checking product labels and expiration dates, and promptly refrigerating or freezing purchased items. The June inspections specifically focused on compliance with the Food Safety Law, including registration, traceability, hygiene, HACCP principles, and product safety analysis reports.
