Serbia's Opposition Forms Pro-European Election Coalition Amidst Shifting Dates

Serbia's political landscape is abuzz with decisions regarding upcoming elections, though an official date remains unannounced. The ruling party is reportedly considering a shift in the election timeline, while opposition parties are strategizing their participation. The Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), led by Dragan Đilas, has declared its intention to contest the elections as part of a pro-European coalition. Đilas indicated that discussions have already begun with several parties, aiming to solidify this alliance. The "Path to Europe" coalition is gaining traction, with Zdravko Ponoš's SRCE party expressing strong interest and commitment to advocating for Serbia's European Union membership. Ponoš emphasized that participation in this coalition requires a clear stance in favor of EU integration. Meanwhile, the Ecological Uprising party, represented by Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta, has not yet made a concrete decision about joining such a coalition, stating that formal agreements are necessary. Đilas also expressed openness to collaborating with a student list and highlighted the importance of securing election results, suggesting concerns about the current government's willingness to accept electoral defeat. President Aleksandar Vučić has previously indicated that elections could take place between September and November.
