Serbian hospital sets birth record with nine babies born in one hour

The "Dr Dragiša Mišović" Clinical Hospital Center in Belgrade experienced an extraordinary surge of new life, with nine babies born within a single hour. This remarkable event included three sets of twins, resulting in six infants from multiple births, alongside three single births. The unprecedented number of deliveries in such a short timeframe has set a new record for the hospital's maternity ward.

Dr. Slađana Mihajlović, head of Gynecology and Obstetrics, described it as one of the most beautiful days of her career. She emphasized that despite the high-risk nature of twin pregnancies, the entire medical team, comprising gynecologists, anesthesiologists, midwives, and neonatologists, worked seamlessly to ensure all deliveries were successful. "We are overjoyed that both mothers and babies are doing well," she stated.

New mothers shared their experiences of the momentous occasion. Snežana Tošić, who welcomed twins Dimitrija and Anika, called it a "special experience" and an "unrepeatable feeling" to witness so many births in such a short period. Jelena Stanojević, mother to twins Petar and Lazar, also reported a smooth delivery and noted the immediate camaraderie forming between her newborns and the other babies born around the same time.

The hospital has seen over 18 births in the last 24 hours and more than 2,500 since the beginning of the year. Dr. Mihajlović stressed that the focus remains on quality care and patient satisfaction, rather than just setting records. She added that despite the high volume of births, the maternity ward has expanded its capacity with an additional neonatology department, ensuring no pregnant woman is turned away due to lack of space.
