Serbian minister warns against improper disposal of dead animals amid swine fever outbreak

Serbia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, Dragan Glamočić, has issued a stern warning regarding the improper disposal of deceased animals. During a crisis staff meeting in Obrenovac, addressing the outbreak of African swine fever, Glamočić highlighted that such practices present a significant danger to animal health, the environment, and human well-being. He declared that there would be no tolerance for irresponsible behavior during the declared state of emergency, with all violations to be reported and penalized according to the law.

Glamočić stressed the urgency of the situation, stating that there is no room for delays or improvisation in combating African swine fever. He explained that each day lost increases the risk of the contagion spreading and incurs further damage. The minister called for collective responsibility, urging everyone to fulfill their duties immediately without any shirking or blame-shifting. He reiterated the critical importance of adhering to strict biosecurity measures, including the prompt euthanasia of infected animals and their safe disposal, to prevent further proliferation of the virus.

To further control the outbreak, Glamočić mandated the clear marking of all infected and endangered areas in accordance with regulations. He also ordered the immediate rectification of any identified shortcomings in the field. An emergency situation was declared in Obrenovac on July 15 due to the African swine fever outbreak, leading to measures such as the closure of the livestock market.
