Serbian movement demands compensation for appliance damage from power surge

The City Board of the People's Movement of Serbia (NPS) in Subotica has demanded that Elektrodistribucija compensate citizens for material damage caused by a severe power surge on the electrical grid. NPS stated that the surge occurred on Friday, July 10, resulting in damage to household appliances and electrical devices in numerous homes, according to information provided by citizens.

NPS criticized the lack of official communication regarding the causes of the surge and the process for claiming damages. The party emphasized that citizens are entitled to timely and clear answers and that Elektrodistribucija must take responsibility in accordance with the law. They expressed concern that citizen claims might be rejected or limited, citing past practices where compensation was tied to devices under factory warranty.

"Compensation must be paid for every device determined to be damaged due to this event, regardless of its age, because citizens regularly pay their electricity bills and are entitled to a reliable and safe distribution network," the statement read.

The NPS has called on Elektrodistribucija in Subotica to urgently inform the public about the incident's causes. They also requested a clear procedure for reporting and claiming damages, and for full compensation to be provided to all affected households without administrative obstacles or reliance on warranty periods. The party pledged to monitor the actions of the relevant institutions until all damaged citizens receive complete and fair compensation.
