Serbian national arrested in Montenegro for document forgery; stolen car also seized

Montenegrin border police, in collaboration with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX), have arrested a Serbian national on suspicion of document forgery. The individual, identified by the initials S.R., was detained at the Ranče border crossing while attempting to enter Montenegro.

During a routine inspection, officers discovered that the French license plates on the Porsche S.R. was driving did not correspond to the vehicle's registration documents. Further investigation revealed that the plates belonged to a different vehicle, a Renault Megane registered in France under another person's name. The state prosecutor in Pljevlja deemed these actions to constitute document forgery, leading to S.R.'s arrest and the temporary seizure of the vehicle for further examination.

In a separate incident at the Vraćenovići–Deleuša border crossing, Montenegrin police detained a Romanian citizen, G.M.M., driving a Toyota with Ukrainian license plates. A detailed inspection uncovered discrepancies between the vehicle's chassis number and its registration documents. Suspicious irregularities on the vehicle's identification plates suggested tampering.

Subsequent checks conducted with FRONTEX assistance confirmed that the Toyota had been reported stolen in Italy on March 3, 2026, when it was registered under Italian plates. The state prosecutor in Nikšić has ordered the temporary confiscation of the vehicle for further analysis and expert examination. Efforts are underway through NCB Interpol Podgorica to ascertain all facts and circumstances surrounding this case.
