Serbian Opposition Plans to Confront Government on Avoided Issues

The People's Movement of Serbia (NPS) declared its intention to use an upcoming parliamentary session, potentially called for a no-confidence vote in the government, to confront the ruling party on issues it has allegedly been evading. The NPS plans to use the televised session to "open all questions that the authorities are trying to avoid," according to party official Aleksandar Ivanović.

Ivanović stated that the NPS had requested this parliamentary session back in February. A key catalyst for this demand was the collapse of a canopy, an incident that has led to the current minister also being under indictment. "From numerous affairs and misdeeds to serious criminal offenses that we believe characterize the work of this government," Ivanović told TV Nova, indicating the broad scope of issues the party intends to raise.

Looking ahead to elections, Ivanović confirmed that the NPS has decided to participate and has already begun full preparations. Party leader Miroslav Aleksić is prioritizing a unified student list and opposition front, which Ivanović described as the "winning combination." However, he stressed that if unity proves unattainable, establishing a strategic cooperation is crucial, as the "political opponent is on the other side, not in our ranks."

The NPS reports significant activity across Serbia, with members visiting various regions. The party claims to have 146 local committees and over 200 councilors. Ivanović added, "We talk with citizens every day and adopt program documents containing concrete solutions for the period after the change of government." He assured that any vote for NPS would not be wasted, referencing their past local election performance and concluding, "At this moment, the winning formula is unity, not division."
