Serbian Parliament Speaker: Low chance of no-confidence vote against government

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić expressed skepticism on Tuesday about the likelihood of a no-confidence vote against the current government, led by Prime Minister Đuro Macut. Brnabić, speaking on Radio-Television Serbia, suggested that the opposition lacks the unity and numbers to even form a quorum for such a debate.

The chances are slim that the MPs will vote no confidence in the Government.

She anticipates that the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary session, called for by 109 MPs, will not feature substantive arguments from the opposition. While acknowledging the possibility of being persuaded by "unbelievable arguments," Brnabić pointed to the government's achievements, including high economic growth, the initiation of a strategic dialogue with the United States, and announced new investments, as reasons why the government should retain confidence.

The parliament is set to convene at 10 a.m. to discuss the motion, which marks the sole item on the agenda. This follows a previous attempt in February by 62 opposition MPs to oust the government over the "General Staff affair," a motion that was stalled due to the ruling majority's refusal to provide a quorum.
