Serbian Railways Warns Drivers Against Ignoring Barriers at Železnik Crossing

Drivers in the Belgrade neighborhood of Železnik are repeatedly ignoring safety measures at a railway crossing, prompting a stern warning from "Infrastruktura železnice Srbije" (Serbian Railways Infrastructure).

The company stated that drivers have been frequently driving around lowered barriers and disregarding red lights in recent days. This behavior directly endangers traffic safety and human lives, according to the infrastructure provider.

"Infrastruktura železnice" issued an appeal and a warning for drivers to adhere to regulations. They highlighted that irresponsible and negligent driving can lead to railway accidents. The company reminded the public that trains require a stopping distance of 700 to 1,000 meters.

"We remind you that the stopping distance of a train is between 700 and 1,000 meters, and that on our, as well as international tracks, in over 90 percent of cases, the cause of accidents at level crossings is non-compliance with regulations by drivers of road vehicles," the statement read. The company urged drivers to respect traffic signals and regulations, especially at railway crossings, and to avoid bypassing lowered barriers to prevent accidents and save lives.
