A significant wildfire continues to rage in Serbia's Deliblatska Peščara nature reserve, more than two weeks after it initially broke out. The blaze, which began in early August, has already consumed an alarming 3,500 hectares of land and is now critically threatening areas near the Danube River.

Firefighters are facing a dire situation as the flames have crossed a major road, advancing towards the weekend settlement of Slatine and the Danube itself. The strategic importance of this area, coupled with the fire's relentless spread, has elevated the concern surrounding the incident. Adding to the challenge, a new heatwave is expected in the coming days, and strong winds are further complicating efforts to contain and extinguish the fire.

Experts are weighing in on the environmental and health implications. Elizabet Paunović, a retired director at the World Health Organization's European Centre for Environment and Health, is expected to discuss the situation. Meanwhile, in a separate development, the judicial branch's trade union has demanded the withdrawal of three proposed justice system laws, calling for public debate before they are reintroduced to parliament. The union's president, Nemanja Đurić, is slated to be a guest to discuss this matter.
