Sergej Jakirović Signs New Hull Deal After Perfect Premier League Start

Hull City has rewarded Sergej Jakirović with a new contract after the newly promoted club began its return to the Premier League with two wins and no goals conceded. The two-year deal keeps the 49-year-old coach at the MKM Stadium until the summer of 2028, and Hull holds an option to extend it through the end of the 2028-29 season.

Jakirović took charge in June 2025 and oversaw a dramatic turnaround in his first season in English football. Hull moved from the brink of relegation to a Championship play-off place on the final day of the regular season, beating Norwich City 2-1. The Tigers then defeated Millwall in the semi-finals and Middlesbrough in the final at Wembley to secure promotion.

The promotion campaign ended with three consecutive clean sheets. Jakirović became only the third Hull manager to lead the club into the Premier League through the play-offs. His strong start in the top flight continued with a 2-0 home victory over Manchester United and a 1-0 away win against Coventry City. Hull’s victory over United was its first league win against the club in 52 years.

Jakirović and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta were the only two of the four coaches whose teams won their opening two league matches while also keeping clean sheets in both games. Chelsea’s Xabi Alonso and Manchester City’s Enzo Maresca also began the campaign with two victories.
