Seven Aceh Nutrition Units Halt Free Meal Program Over Unpaid Funds

Seven nutrition service units in Banda Aceh have suspended operations for the Free Nutritious Meal program, citing a lack of operational funds from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) center. The program's coordinator, Muhammad Reza, stated that the funds, typically disbursed periodically, have not arrived, leaving the kitchens unable to cover daily expenses.

The fund balance has not been sent, so the main funds used to carry out the kitchen operations are gone. Currently, they are still waiting for a top-up of funds from the central BGN.

Reza explained that while seven kitchens have completely stopped, others still have some remaining funds to continue operations. The halt affects meal distribution, as preparation for Monday's meals would have started Sunday, requiring immediate ingredient purchases. The operators chose not to use credit from suppliers to avoid administrative issues and potential price markups.

If Monday's operations, preparation is done on Sunday. If there is no preparation, how can the program be run?

The BGN center had previously directed kitchens to pause operations if funds were unavailable. Currently, schools are being informed about the suspension. Reza mentioned that if the funds are not transferred soon, more kitchens might cease operations as their reserves deplete. Earlier, BGN head Nanik S Deyang denied reports of fund suspension, stating that all MBG services continue as planned, though acknowledging administrative dynamics in fund disbursement.
