Seven Arrested in Vietnam for Coffin Stunt During Street Party

Authorities in Can Tho, Vietnam, have arrested seven individuals in connection with a bizarre public disturbance that occurred on the evening of June 4. The incident involved a group carrying a coffin, dancing, and playing loud music on Le Duan Street in Soc Trang Ward, an act widely condemned as offensive and inappropriate.

The arrested individuals are being investigated for disturbing public order. The group is alleged to have celebrated the birthday of the owner of the Nhat Tam funeral home, Nguyễn Hoàng Nhật, 42, with a street party. During the event, participants, some wearing funeral attire, carried a coffin, with individuals taking turns lying inside while dancing and cheering to loud music.

Videos of the event circulated widely on social media, drawing significant public criticism. Many viewers expressed outrage at the group's disrespectful behavior, calling it a mockery of customs and traditions. The public outcry prompted authorities to launch an investigation into the matter.

The seven suspects arrested alongside Nhật include Phạm Quốc Em, 31; Phạm Văn Lộc, 48; Cổ Minh Đức, 32; Cao Văn Vẹn, 25; Lý Thanh Liêm, 19; and Nguyễn Quốc Khải, 38. The incident has sparked debate about public decency and the appropriate conduct during celebrations, especially those involving funeral-related businesses.
