Shapovalov reaches Abierto de Los Cabos final to face Gea

Denis Shapovalov has reached the final of the Abierto de Los Cabos, the tournament's tenth anniversary, after a hard-fought victory over Cameron Norrie. The Canadian tennis player won the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, securing his spot in the championship match.

Shapovalov, the defending champion, is aiming to become the first player to win back-to-back titles at the Mexican ATP 250 event. His path to the final was challenging, marked by a rib fracture and a left shoulder injury earlier in the season. However, he found his best form again on the courts of Los Cabos, the same venue where he secured his fourth career title last year.

His opponent in the final will be the young French player Arthur Gea. Gea has had a remarkable breakthrough season, reaching his first career final despite having no previous ATP Tour victories before 2026. He secured his place in the final by defeating Coleman Wong with a score of 7-6(7) and 6-3.

Shapovalov acknowledged the difficulty of any final, especially against a rising young player like Gea. "Definitely no final is easy. He is a very young player. He is climbing the rankings," Shapovalov stated. Reflecting on his own performance, he added, "It was a very good victory for me. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, it was an incredible week for me. I am happy because I held up physically, despite all the injuries I suffered this season."
