Sharon Stone reveals visions she experienced after surviving a stroke

Sharon Stone has decided to speak publicly about an experience she kept private for years: visions she says began after she survived a potentially fatal stroke in 2001.

The actress recalled struggling to sleep at night after leaving the hospital while spending much of the day asleep. During one episode, she said, she lay on a sofa between sleep and wakefulness and saw five luminous spheres that appeared to communicate with her.

She explained that she had never discussed the experience publicly because she found it difficult to describe precisely. The lights did not frighten her. Instead, she remembered feeling curious and peaceful while still dealing with the physical and emotional consequences of the brain hemorrhage.

I kept saying to them: ‘I don’t know whether I should stay here or whether I should die.’ And they said to me: ‘You must stay.’ And I said to them: ‘I can only stay if two of you stay with my son. Because I don’t want him to be alone, and I think they’re going to take him away from me.’

The episode carried particular meaning because Stone was worried about Roan, her adopted son, who was about a year old at the time. “I kept saying to them: ‘I don’t know whether I should stay here or whether I should die.’ And they said to me: ‘You must stay.’ And I said to them: ‘I can only stay if two of you stay with my son. Because I don’t want him to be alone, and I think they’re going to take him away from me,’” she recounted.

Stone and her then-husband, Phil Bronstein, adopted Roan in 2000. They divorced four years later and later became involved in a custody dispute. Stone has said that some of her film roles influenced the court decision. She remains close to Roan, now 26, and later adopted Laird and Quinn, who are now 21 and 20. In another conversation with the BBC, she recalled telling her younger self, “You’re going to make it.”
