Sharp weather change approaches as temperatures set to plunge

Summer’s run is nearing its end in Croatia, with a marked weather shift expected from Wednesday and a sharp temperature drop on Thursday.

Monday and Tuesday will remain mostly sunny and hot across much of the country, with daytime highs between 29 and 34°C. Winds will generally stay light, although the Adriatic will see changing coastal winds, including bora, southwesterly and northwesterly winds.

The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service expects cloud cover to increase from the northwest on Wednesday, bringing rain and thunderstorms, first to mountainous and central Croatia and later to other areas. Some showers could become locally heavy on Thursday, particularly in the west.

On the Adriatic, Tuesday should be mostly sunny before cloud and storm activity increase. Storms are possible first in the north and later in Dalmatia. A strong bora is expected in the northern Adriatic on Thursday, with gale-force gusts below the Velebit range. Temperatures will fall, especially in Istria and the Kvarner region.

Forecasting for HRT, DHMZ meteorologist Kristina Klemenčić Novinc said Wednesday would be considerably more unstable and Thursday cloudier and wetter, with noticeably lower daytime temperatures inland and on the northern Adriatic.
