Sheinbaum champions AMLO's legacy with universal senior pension; aid is universal, not conditioned

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has lauded the universal pension for older adults as a significant legacy of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, stressing its unconditional and universal nature. Speaking in Acapulco, Guerrero, Sheinbaum affirmed that this benefit is provided to all citizens over 65 years old, regardless of their political affiliation.

"The universal pension for adult seniors is a great legacy of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Only in Mexico, all adults over 65 have a universal pension. No one is asked if they belong to a political party or if they will vote for someone; it is universal," Sheinbaum stated during the distribution of "Pensión Mujeres Bienestar" cards. She highlighted that Mexico is among the few countries offering such a benefit universally.

Sheinbaum reiterated her administration's commitment to continuing the "transformation" initiated by López Obrador and preventing a return to past policies. The President's remarks come as the ruling Morena party navigates its internal process to select a state coordinator in Guerrero, a role seen as crucial for the party's preparations for the 2027 gubernatorial elections. Sheinbaum's focus on social programs and continuing López Obrador's agenda aims to solidify the party's platform and appeal.
