Sheinbaum Renews Voluntary Gasoline Deal to Fight Inflation and Rising Living Costs

Claudia Sheinbaum’s government has renewed a voluntary agreement with gasoline retailers as it seeks to keep fuel prices from adding to the pressure on Mexican households.

Sheinbaum announced the renewal after a meeting at the National Palace. She said the agreement would maintain cooperation between the federal government and the fuel sector and prevent unjustified increases in gasoline prices.

Under the agreement, regular gasoline, known in Mexico as magna, should cost 23.99 pesos. The administration presents the arrangement as part of its effort to address inflation and the rising cost of living without imposing direct price controls.

“​​At the National Palace, we renewed the voluntary agreement with gasoline retailers to combat inflation and the rising cost of living, in support of the economy and well-being of Mexican families,” Sheinbaum wrote on social media.

The government says keeping fuel prices stable can also limit knock-on increases in other products and services. The agreement forms part of a broader strategy based on coordination with different economic sectors.
