Sheinbaum’s second report focuses on security, migration and sovereignty

Claudia Sheinbaum used her second government report to reject talk of divisions within Mexico’s ruling project and to emphasize national sovereignty.

Speaking from the central courtyard of the National Palace, the president called on federal and state officials to act with simplicity and honesty. She criticized opposition governments for displays of luxury and extravagance, while saying that top-level public servants’ salaries had not increased.

She said public revenue had been directed toward welfare programs, schools, hospitals, housing, roads, water projects, trains and security measures. She also highlighted advances involving women and Indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities.

Sheinbaum said Mexico had shown itself to be a strong, democratic country capable of dialogue after 23 months of her administration. Addressing reports of disagreements inside the Fourth Transformation movement, she said, “Make no mistake, there are no divisions here, there are no breakups; the only thing here is the defense of the people of Mexico and their dignity.”

On security, she reported a 51% decline in intentional homicides since Oct. 1, 2024, equivalent to 44 fewer homicides per day. She said July recorded the lowest daily average in 11 years. During 2026, the daily average of high-impact crimes fell 54% compared with 2018, while violent cargo-truck robberies fell 26.1%, violent vehicle theft fell 23.6%, and intentional firearm injuries fell 11.4%.

From October 2024 through July 2026, authorities arrested more than 63,000 people linked to offenses, including 207 identified as priority targets from organized-crime groups. Officials also seized 32,824 firearms and 519 tons of drugs.
