Sheinbaum Urges Morena to Prioritize National Project Over Personal Ambitions

Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico's president, has called on political figures within the ruling Morena party to place the "project" above personal aspirations as the party prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial elections. She stressed the critical need to defend the nation's sovereignty and the governing party's platform, which she believes enjoys significant public backing.

Speaking in Morelia, Michoacán, Sheinbaum stated that the defense of the nation's project is paramount. While she noted that Morena has internal mechanisms for resolving candidate selections, she urged unity in protecting Mexico. She highlighted the party's strong approval ratings as a testament to the public's support for their vision.

The most important thing is the defense of the project, above even people, it is the project. And fortunately, for many years, since its formation, Morena has mechanisms to resolve its candidacies, but we must all defend Mexico always.

Morena is currently in the process of selecting coordinators for its state committees, a crucial step in preparing for the 2026-2027 election cycle, which will see 17 governorships contested. The party has a deadline of December 31 of this year to finalize these selections. These coordinators are expected to eventually become the party's pre-candidates and candidates for the upcoming elections.
