Shihsanhang Museum Marks Taiwan Heritage Day With Three Weekends of Green Events

A nearly 200-stall family secondhand market will open a three-weekend program at New Taipei’s Shihsanhang Museum for Taiwan’s 2026 National Heritage Day. The event will pair reuse and recycling activities with an international concert on Sept. 12 and 13.

The market will feature secondhand goods and environmentally friendly food vendors. Children can join a sandpit excavation activity as members of a “future archaeology team,” considering how everyday objects may affect the environment in the future. Another workshop will turn recycled paper pulp into a handheld mirror inspired by the museum’s anthropomorphic pottery jar.

That afternoon, the museum’s grass plaza will host a free concert titled “Classical Echoes and Future New Voices.” The performers include Paraguayan guitarist and Golden Melody Award winner Roberto Zayas, Spanish flamenco guitarist Sergio Muñoz, Slovenian accordionist Primož Parovel and Brazilian saxophonist Diogo Pinheiro. Young bands from Taiwan’s Indigenous communities, Hong Kong and Malaysia will perform afterward.

The museum will offer free admission on Sept. 19 and 20. A family program will take participants into a real excavation pit at the Wugu Shitudi Gong archaeological site, combining prehistoric and historical heritage exploration.

A low-carbon tour called “Green Travel on Both Banks, Reading the River with Five Senses” will follow on Sept. 24. Participants will connect a Tamsui ferry, bicycles on the left bank and ZEMO fully electric shuttle vehicles. The route will include a pomelo-flavored meal made with produce delivered from Guanyinshan Farm and a handmade-soap workshop.

Museum director Lo Pei-hsuan said the heritage program aims not only to look back at history, but also to turn sustainability into an everyday action for families through markets, low-carbon tours and outdoor music.
