Shin Jinseo marks 80 months as South Korea's top Go player; Sumire enters women's top 3

Go prodigy Shin Jinseo has solidified his dominance in South Korean professional Go, securing the top national ranking for an unprecedented 80 consecutive months. As of August 5, Shin held a commanding lead with 10,402 points, significantly ahead of second-ranked Park Jung-hwan, who has 9,971 points.

Shin's consistent reign at the top highlights his sustained excellence in the highly competitive world of professional Go. Although his recent unofficial matches against the AI Kogo, where he achieved a 2-1 record, were not reflected in the official rankings, the substantial point gap between him and other players ensures his continued hold on the No. 1 position.

In the women's division, Choi Jeong continues her reign as the top-ranked player for the second consecutive month. Meanwhile, Sumire Nakamura, a rising talent who transferred to play professionally in Korea, has achieved a significant milestone by entering the top 3 in the women's rankings for the first time. Nakamura's ascent reflects her rapid adaptation and strong performance since joining the Korean circuit.

Nakamura's rise has pushed Oh Yu-jin down to fourth place. Since starting at 217th in the overall Korean rankings in April 2024, Nakamura has climbed to 62nd overall and third in the women's division within just over two years. Kim Eun-ji holds the second position in the women's rankings, with Oh Yu-jin and Kim Chae-young rounding out the top five.
