Shincheonji denies involvement in Democratic Party convention

The religious group Shincheonji has vehemently denied accusations of interfering in the upcoming national convention of South Korea's Democratic Party. The allegations were raised by Kim Min-seok, a former Prime Minister and candidate for the party's leadership.

We have not engaged in any intervention activities and clearly state that this is not true at all.

Shincheonji issued a statement on July 22 expressing deep regret over Kim's claims, asserting that the group has not engaged in any form of interference. The group emphasized its lack of interest in the Democratic Party's leadership election, stating that individual members who may have joined the party do not represent Shincheonji's collective stance.

The group further criticized the claims as a serious infringement of religious freedom, guaranteed by the constitution. Shincheonji accused Kim of using the group as a political tool for his electoral campaign and warned that such irresponsible attacks on its reputation must cease immediately. They also indicated potential legal action against such defamatory statements.
