Shooting in Missaukee, Michigan leaves five dead

A series of violent events in Missaukee County, Michigan, resulted in five deaths, including the suspected perpetrator, authorities reported Friday. The Michigan State Police launched a significant search operation following the initial incident.

Around midday, officers responded to a shooting report at a residence located approximately 272 kilometers northwest of Detroit. Upon arrival, they discovered three deceased individuals and a fourth person in critical condition, who was transported to a hospital. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, had fled the scene before officers arrived, prompting an extensive manhunt.

During the ongoing search, authorities found a fourth deceased person at another residence. The police had warned the public that Hickman was armed and considered dangerous, urging residents to avoid him. The search intensified as officers located Hickman's vehicle in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake.

Their investigation led them to the suspect's body and that of another deceased individual in the wooded area. The Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, noting that they have not yet explained how each of the six individuals died or publicly determined any relationship between the victims and the suspect. Lieutenant Ashley Miller stated that the situation is "heartbreaking for the community and a challenge for investigators," assuring a thorough investigation and promising updates as new information becomes available.
