Shooting in Puente de Ixtla, Morelos, under investigation; two dead, three wounded after attack on vehicle

The Fiscalía Regional Sur Poniente has launched an investigation into a shooting that occurred near a security checkpoint in the Jardines de La Herradura neighborhood of Puente de Ixtla, Morelos. The incident left two people dead and three others injured.

According to initial reports, a vehicle carrying five individuals was fired upon while traveling on the road connecting Tehuixtla and Puente de Ixtla. The attack happened near a security checkpoint that had been established in the area.

Video footage shared on social media depicts the targeted vehicle sustaining numerous bullet impacts. The car appears to lose control, slowly moving with its hazard lights on before veering off the road, mounting a sidewalk, and crashing into a house wall. The vehicle subsequently caught fire. The video also shows one person exiting the burning vehicle and fleeing the scene.

While preliminary accounts suggest the vehicle may have been targeted by security forces at the checkpoint, official details regarding a possible exchange of gunfire are not yet available. Paramedics confirmed the deaths of two men at the scene. Two women and another man were hospitalized, with one of the injured reported to be in critical condition.
