Shooting shakes Montreal Jewish neighborhood; three dead in incident

Three people, including the alleged assailant, died in a shooting incident in a Montreal Jewish neighborhood on Monday, Canadian police reported. The attack claimed the lives of a police officer and a civilian, while another officer was injured.

Montreal police confirmed the death of their officer in the line of duty via a statement on X, formerly Twitter. The identity of the civilian victim has not yet been released. Authorities were expected to provide further details later on Monday.

The shooting took place in an area known for its restaurants and kosher supermarkets, which is frequently visited by the local Jewish community. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), a prominent Canadian civil society group, stated they are closely monitoring the situation. "While we await further details on the nature of this terrifying incident, we ask members of the community to remain vigilant," CIJA said in a statement.
