Shootout erupts outside ex-President Duhalde's home during attempted motorcycle theft

A brazen attempted motorcycle theft near the residence of former Argentine President Eduardo Duhalde in Lomas de Zamora escalated into a gunfight on Sunday. The incident occurred when Duhalde's security personnel intervened as they witnessed the crime in progress.

There was an attempted motorcycle robbery. The victim was shot and moved to the door of my house, where he knew security was. He called them because he needed help, security came out and these guys [the delinquents] were coming. Security started shooting. They think a thief is injured. A shot hit the front of my house.

According to reports, two armed assailants were attempting to rob a motorcyclist when Duhalde's security detail, stationed at the entrance of the former president's home, stepped in. Identifying themselves as police officers, the security guards engaged the robbers in a shootout. The assailants managed to escape on foot, and it is believed one of them may have been injured during the exchange of gunfire. The security personnel were unharmed.

The victim of the attempted robbery, a 60-year-old man, sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder blade. He was promptly assisted and transported to Gandulfo Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition and out of danger. Duhalde himself was reportedly asleep during the incident and only became aware of the commotion afterward.

Speaking to the media, Duhalde provided details of the event, explaining that the victim had sought refuge at his home after being shot, knowing that security was present. He confirmed that his security detail opened fire on the assailants. Duhalde also visited the victim at the hospital, offering his support and assistance. The incident highlights the persistent issue of crime in the region, even in proximity to high-profile residences.
