Shot fired outside US consulate in Canada for second time this year

Shots were fired outside the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto on Monday, the second such incident this year. Police responded to the scene around 5 a.m. local time and found evidence of at least one shot fired, with damage to the building's facade and a shell casing recovered.

A white sedan was observed fleeing the scene at high speed, and police briefly pursued the vehicle before discontinuing the chase due to safety concerns. No suspects have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

This incident echoes a shooting that occurred on March 10, when several shots were fired at the same building. In June, Toronto police suggested a link between anti-Jewish attacks in the city and shootings at the U.S. consulate. They claimed that young people were being recruited via encrypted messaging apps to carry out such attacks for payment, targeting locations including synagogues, Jewish schools, a waste management company, and the U.S. Consulate.

Authorities are cooperating with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the U.S. FBI on the ongoing investigations. Ontario Premier Doug Ford stated his expectation that "all those responsible to be found, prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law."
