Shreejana Rana elected to Zonta International board

Nepal has achieved a significant milestone in global women's leadership with the election of Zontian Shreejana Rana to the Zonta International Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 biennium. The election took place at the 67th Zonta International Convention in Vancouver, Canada.

Rana's appointment is a historic first for Nepal, making her the first Nepali representative to serve on the governing board of Zonta International, an organization with over 1,100 clubs in 65 countries and territories that champions women's rights, equality, and leadership.

A prominent figure in Nepal's hospitality and civic sectors, and former President of the Hotel Association of Nepal, Rana has consistently advocated for women's empowerment and social rights. She expressed her deep honor and responsibility, stating, "This is a deeply humbling honour and, above all, a responsibility to represent Nepal on the global stage through Zonta International. I hope this milestone inspires young women to believe in themselves, step forward with courage, and know that no ceiling is too high to break."

Adding to the celebratory moment, Zonta Club Kathmandu received the Zonta Excellence in Service and Advocacy Award for the second consecutive biennium. This prestigious award, given to only six clubs worldwide each biennium, recognizes the Kathmandu club's collaborative efforts to combat violence against women and girls, both online and offline. Their work involved partnerships with police agencies, the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, legal professionals, local governments, civil society, the private sector, and educational institutions.

Together, Rana's election and the club's international recognition underscore a pivotal moment for Nepal, showcasing the increasing influence of Nepali women in global leadership, advocacy, and driving social change.
