Signal box failure causes S-Bahn outages in Hannover

Commuters in Hannover faced significant disruptions Friday as signal box failures led to temporary, full-route outages on S-Bahn lines S3 and S6. The disruptions stemmed from a technical issue at the signal box in Lehrte, impacting services between Hannover and Hildesheim (S3) and Celle and Hannover (S6).

The S7 line was limited to a shuttle service between Celle and Burgdorf. To compensate, a bus replacement service was established to connect Burgdorf and Hannover, according to the operator Transdev.

Although the signal box malfunction was resolved by late morning, the bus services were expected to continue running in parallel for some time. Compounding the issues for S3 passengers, construction work is also underway on the line between Lehrte and Hildesheim, according to an S-Bahn Hannover spokesperson.
