Sinaproc maintains vigilance in Bocas del Toro after soil saturation affects roads

Panama's National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) is maintaining close surveillance in the province of Bocas del Toro due to ongoing concerns over soil saturation and a recent road collapse. The incident occurred in the Las Tablas area of Changuinola, impacting access to several communities.

Despite a lack of rainfall in the past 48 hours, the ground remains waterlogged, posing a continued risk. The collapse of a key road has severed communication lines to some areas, prompting Sinaproc and the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to assess the situation and begin necessary repairs to restore access.

Óscar Santamaría, head of Search and Rescue, reported that only one lane is currently passable for students and residents of the 15 de Diciembre community. Efforts are underway to improve the road conditions to allow access to this community and the Dos Cañas Abajo School, which remains cut off.

Authorities continue to evaluate the stability of the affected road and surrounding areas. Sinaproc has reiterated its call for the public to remain vigilant and take preventative measures, especially those who must travel through the impacted zones. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution due to the saturated ground conditions, which could lead to further landslides.
