Sindh Assembly adopts resolution rejecting division of province amid opposition boycott

The Sindh Assembly has rejected every attempt to divide the province, alter its boundaries or create new administrative units, but the resolution passed only after opposition lawmakers walked out in protest.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah declared that “there will be no compromise on Sindh’s geographical unity.” The resolution was adopted on Thursday during a session marked by a strong opposition protest and boycott.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Jamaat-i-Islami left the chamber immediately after Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi addressed an adjournment motion. They said they were boycotting the proceedings because the treasury benches had refused to include three MQM-P proposals in the resolution.

The excluded proposals concerned administrative units and devolution. The assembly proceeded with the resolution despite the walkout. No lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf were present in the house.
