Singapore's Concours d'Elegance Showcases Classic Cars and Cinematic Spectacle

Singapore has launched its own classic car event, the Concours d'Elegance, at Gardens by the Bay, aiming to rival established international competitions like those in Lake Como and California. The exhibition, running until August 16, is billed as the world's first "immersive concours." It blends traditional automotive judging with a unique presentation style, incorporating cinematic storytelling, music, and large-scale projections to transport attendees through famous driving routes and landscapes.

The event showcases a diverse range of collector cars, from a 1966 Jaguar MK2 to a 1989 Lamborghini Countach. The "competition of elegance" format requires classic and vintage cars to be at least 35 years old. Judges evaluate them on condition, historical significance, technical qualities, aesthetics, rarity, authenticity, elegance, and style. Among the contenders are a pre-World War II 1936 Triumph Dolomite Roadster and a rare 1939 MGTA Tickford Drophead Coupe.

A standout is a 1941 Ford Mercury Eight Convertible, reportedly the last car produced at the former Ford Motor Factory in Singapore. This vehicle has a dramatic history, including confiscation by the Japanese Army during World War II, shipment to Indonesia, and subsequent restoration in Singapore. The exhibition also features contemporary supercars and hypercars from manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lotus, Bugatti, Aston Martin, and McLaren, highlighting the evolution of automotive design and performance.
