Singer Carly Simon has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement control. The 83-year-old artist shared this news in a statement, explaining that she is currently learning to navigate life with the condition.

Simon detailed her ongoing health challenges, noting that she had previously dealt with arthritis in her hip and both knees, necessitating three joint replacement surgeries. Despite these procedures, her mobility continued to decline, prompting extensive medical evaluations at the Mayo Clinic, which led to her Parkinson's diagnosis.

She described the unpredictable nature of Parkinson's, stating that some days leave her extremely fatigued, while others allow for more movement and activity. Simon also revealed that she was simultaneously treated for basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, which required surgery that altered her appearance and affected her public confidence.

Despite these health battles, Simon has found solace and purpose in music. She announced that her first album of original songs since 2008, titled "Comes in Waves," will be released on August 14. She emphasized that while illness can change one's life, it does not have to define it.
