Singer Fan Cheng-chang releases debut album after controversy, featuring international collaborations

Taiwanese singer Fan Cheng-chang has launched his first concept album, "Love Letters to Myself," marking a significant personal and professional milestone. The release comes after a period of public scrutiny last year, when he was embroiled in a publicized relationship dispute and faced misunderstandings as a "third party," despite being openly gay. The controversy led to online attacks, but Fan has channeled the experience into his music.

The album, a collection of nine tracks, showcases a blend of pop, R&B, electronic pop, and world music elements, produced to international standards. It features collaborations with acclaimed artists, including the renowned Indian singer Shruti Pathak and Taiwanese singer-songwriter Lan You-shih. Three songs are in Mandarin, while the remaining six are in English.

Fan describes the album as more than just his debut work; he views it as a record of his life journey. "The emotions that were once unspeakable, the tears shed, the cities walked through, and the people met in life are all collected in these nine songs," he shared. Through his music, Fan hopes to connect with listeners, offering companionship and encouraging them to engage in self-reflection and embrace different stages of their lives.

A notable highlight of the album is the collaboration with Lan You-shih on the track "Love in London," which Lan You-shih also produced. Additionally, Fan ventures into the Indian music scene by performing the album's closing song, "Ghoomar," with Shruti Pathak. This track draws inspiration from a traditional folk song and dance from Rajasthan, India, a significant symbol of Indian royal culture.
