Singer warned by police over song choices before performance in Kosovo monastery

Actor and singer Milan Vasić stated that he was called in for an informational interview with Kosovo police prior to a performance at the feast day celebration of the Monastery of the Holy Archangels near Prizren. Vasić claims police warned him about specific songs he was not permitted to perform.

They told me that I must not sing any song that mentions Metohija.

He described the event as being marked by security measures including metal fences, thorough searches of attendees and their bags, and the confiscation of items deemed to have "problematic symbols." Vasić, who has been involved in humanitarian and cultural activities in Kosovo and Metohija for five years, said he had never encountered such a situation before.

Vasić expressed particular concern for his family, who were accompanying him for the first time. He recounted being questioned by a commander and several officers about his activities and repertoire. He stated he was handed a document outlining rules of conduct and was told not to sing any songs mentioning "Metohija." Vasić explained his program focused on tradition and faith, not politics, and he removed certain songs to ensure the concert proceeded without incident.

Adding to the tension, Vasić observed snipers positioned opposite the stage shortly before his performance. Despite these circumstances, he considered the event a success because it concluded without any incidents. He noted the attendance of people from various Balkan regions, including Slovenia, Croatia, Republika Srpska, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
