Sinner Withdraws from Cincinnati Tournament Ahead of US Open Due to Knee Injury

World number one Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, citing a right knee injury. This decision significantly impacts his preparation for the upcoming US Open, which begins later this month. The Italian star had also previously pulled out of the Canadian Open, another key warm-up event for the Grand Slam in New York.

Sinner, who won the Cincinnati title in 2024 and was a runner-up last year, expressed his disappointment. "My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I'm not ready to compete yet," Sinner stated in a press release. He added, "I'm very disappointed not to be able to play in Cincinnati… I can't wait to be back next year and I'm now focusing on getting ready for the U.S. Open."

The withdrawal of the 24-year-old further depletes the field in Cincinnati. Notably, US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz is also sidelined from the tournament due to a wrist injury. The main draw for the Cincinnati Open is set to commence on August 13, with the US Open main draw scheduled to begin on August 30.
