Sirius wobbling after third straight defeat

Sirius’ bid for a first historic Swedish championship is beginning to look increasingly uncertain after the Uppsala club suffered its third straight defeat, a 1-0 home loss to Malmö FF.

The defeat leaves Sirius with only one point from its last four Allsvenskan matches. The club’s once substantial lead has narrowed to six points over Hammarby, with 11 rounds still to play.

Sirius striker Isak Bjerkebo called the result “very heavy” but said the team did what it needed to do in the second half. He acknowledged that a fear of losing the title could exist subconsciously, while insisting it did not show in the performance. The match may also have been Bjerkebo’s last for the club this season, with speculation linking him to a move abroad before the transfer window closes.

Elsewhere, reigning champions Mjällby remained in poor form and lost 4-0 away to Djurgården, conceding three goals before halftime. Kristian Lien scored twice in the opening 15 minutes. Djurgården also presented 19-year-old signing Charlie Rosenqvist, who joined from Kalmar FF. Gais beat Brommapojkarna 4-0 at Gamla Ullevi.
