Şişli Municipality Trustee Allocates Buses to Menzil Community

A district municipality in Istanbul, currently managed by an appointed trustee, has allocated buses for a trip to the Menzil religious community in Adıyaman. Ali İkram Tuna, the district governor of Büyükçekmece who was appointed as trustee to the Şişli Municipality in May, arranged the bus service for residents of the Kuştepe neighborhood.

Photos of the bus service were shared on social media by a user named Barış Çayırcı, who expressed gratitude to the acting mayor, Ali İkram Tuna, and deputy mayor Şaban Demirel. "This is a first in years for our neighborhood! Although he has only been in office for 55 days, he did not turn down the request from our neighborhood and our dervish lodges for bus support to Adıyaman Menzil. We express our infinite thanks on behalf of myself, our neighborhood residents, and our lodge. Thank you, Mr. Mayor!" Çayırcı wrote.

The Şişli Municipality has seen a series of trustee appointments. The municipality's Republican People's Party (CHP) mayor, Resul Emrah Şahan, was arrested in March as part of a "urban consensus" investigation, leading to the appointment of district governor Cevdet Ertürkmen as trustee. Ertürkmen was later replaced by Istanbul Deputy Governor Ayhan Terzi, who was then succeeded by Ali İkram Tuna on May 20, 2026. Şahan was released from custody in February following the investigation that led to his removal but remains in prison due to a corruption probe.
