Six Dead in Novi Sad Area Traffic Accidents

A total of six individuals lost their lives in separate traffic accidents across the South Bačka district and the city of Novi Sad on Wednesday, July 23, 2026. The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the grim statistics, highlighting a dangerous day on the region's roads.

Within the broader South Bačka district, seven traffic incidents occurred. These accidents resulted in three fatalities, one person sustaining severe injuries, and six others suffering minor wounds. The details of these incidents were not further elaborated in the report.

In Novi Sad itself, five traffic accidents were recorded during the same period. Tragically, three people died in these collisions, while five others were injured, with one of those injuries classified as severe. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding these crashes.

In response to the day's events, law enforcement took action against numerous traffic violations. A total of 428 infractions were recorded under the Law on Road Traffic Safety. Furthermore, 40 drivers and six vehicles were removed from traffic. Four drivers were detained, three for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for repeat offenses, indicating a focus on impaired and reckless driving.
