Six miners trapped after gas explosion in Colombian mine; rescue underway

Six miners remain trapped underground following a methane gas explosion at the Porvenir 1 mine in Cucunubá, Cundinamarca, Colombia. A seventh miner was able to escape the mine by himself following the incident.

Our team from the Ubaté Mining Safety and Rescue Station is responding to an emergency inside a mine located in the La Ramada village, in Cucunubá.

Emergency services, including firefighters from Cundinamarca and the National Mining Agency (ANM), are on site conducting search and rescue operations. The ANM confirmed that its mining rescue and safety station team is actively working to find the six trapped workers. The debris blocking one of the mine's levels has reportedly been cleared.

Governor of Cundinamarca, Jorge Emilio Rey, confirmed the details of the explosion and the ongoing rescue efforts. He stated that the departmental risk management unit is coordinating closely with Cucunubá authorities. The health status of the trapped miners is currently unknown, and officials are closely monitoring the situation.
