SK Hynix eliminates degree requirements in major recruitment overhaul

SK Hynix is removing all educational requirements for new hires, including the need for a bachelor's degree, as it prepares for the artificial intelligence era. The semiconductor manufacturer announced on June 17 that its ongoing recruitment drive will no longer specify academic qualifications like 'a four-year university degree or higher.' The company intends to prioritize candidates based on their actual job performance and potential for growth.

This significant shift in recruitment policy means that anyone with relevant experience, job competency, and cultural fit can apply and be hired, irrespective of their educational background. This initiative reflects SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won's vision for talent in the AI age. Chey has recently highlighted the importance of 'three muscles' for future professionals: 'thinking muscles' for deep inquiry, 'adaptability muscles' for agile response to technological changes, and 'empathy muscles' for understanding diversity and flexible collaboration.

An SK Hynix representative stated, "In the rapidly changing AI environment, the competitiveness of future talent cannot be explained solely by specific degrees or standardized specs." The representative added that the recruitment standards have been innovated to discover individuals who can creatively solve complex problems. The company plans a large-scale recruitment, with over a hundred positions, particularly in key areas like next-generation semiconductor design, to bolster its global AI semiconductor competitiveness and secure future growth engines.
