SK Telecom revives 18,776 independence activists with AI, creating commemorative courses

SK Telecom is commemorating the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation by honoring 18,776 independence activists through a unique campaign. In partnership with the Independence Hall of Korea, the company has launched 'Remembering the 18,776 Independence Activists.'

Leveraging its proprietary AI foundation model, 'A.X K2,' SK Telecom analyzed the historical records of these national heroes. This data was then combined with location-based information to create a network of 10 walking and running courses across the country, totaling 44.6 kilometers. These courses are designed to allow people to retrace the footsteps of the activists.

The courses, named 'Remembering the Women Who Led Independence' in Seoul's Jongno district and 'Remembering the Flame of Manse' in Cheonan, among others, are situated in major cities from Seoul to Jeju. SK Telecom CEO Ryu Young-sang, singer Sean, and marathoner Lee Bong-ju have already run some of these courses to honor the spirits of the activists.

Citizens can join the campaign by using the running app 'RunDay.' This initiative blends technology with historical remembrance, offering a tangible way for the public to connect with and honor the legacy of those who fought for Korea's independence.
