Sleman prepares 1,000 students to welcome Prabowo and Modi during school holiday

Sleman Regency in Yogyakarta is mobilizing 1,000 elementary and junior high school students to welcome Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their visit on Wednesday. The students are currently on school holiday following the distribution of report cards.

The students will be divided into two shifts at the Adisutjipto Airport exit in Sleman. The first 500 students will greet the leaders upon their arrival around 10:00 AM before they proceed to Prambanan Temple. The remaining 500 students will be present for their departure around 12:00 PM.

According to Mustadi, Head of the Sleman Education Agency, the students will wear traditional Javanese attire. He stated that this arrangement is a directive from the central government, specifically the Presidential Secretariat, and was followed up through regional coordination meetings.

Mustadi acknowledged that the welcome coincides with the students' school holidays. However, he emphasized that the local government feels obligated to carry out the central government's instructions. "Basically, because it is an instruction from above, and the regional government welcomes it, we must make it happen. So, we have to coordinate with the regional coordinators, principals, and supervisors so we can carry it out," he explained.

Mustadi also noted President Prabowo's previous request to regional heads not to mobilize students for his visits. This statement was made by Prabowo during the inauguration of the Kabanaran Bridge in Bantul, DIY, on November 19, 2025. Despite this, Mustadi asserted that the Sleman Regency government is merely trying to comply with the instructions from the Presidential Secretariat.
