Slobodan University: Party Task Completed, Vladimir Mihić Loses Job

An academic network has accused the University of Novi Sad of political interference after a professor was dismissed following 24 years of employment. The Slobodan University network stated that "another party task has been completed," leading to the termination of associate professor Vladimir Mihić from the Faculty of Philosophy.

The network highlighted procedural flaws and a contentious objection from the Dean of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, Patrik Drid. Despite these issues, the expanded Senate reportedly confirmed a previous Senate decision through secret balloting. Drid's objection cited Mihić's "inappropriate public statements" as a professor, a criterion the Slobodan University network argues is not an official requirement for academic positions.

"By accepting such a criterion, the Senate has introduced ideological suitability and political obedience into the advancement process," the Slobodan University network stated. They contend that the university's highest bodies have once again demonstrated they are merely a "party outpost of the regime," prioritizing political loyalty over professional merit and established procedures.

The expanded Senate of the University of Novi Sad rejected Mihić's appeal against the decision not to re-elect him as an associate professor. The vote saw 17 members opposing his appeal, nine in favor, and the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy abstaining. This outcome reinforces the network's claims of political influence within the university's decision-making processes.
