Slovakia and Azerbaijan sign agreement on classified information exchange

Slovakia and Azerbaijan have formalized their security cooperation by signing an agreement on the exchange and mutual protection of classified information. The pact was officially sealed by Roman Konečný, Director of Slovakia's National Security Bureau (NBÚ), and Alim Nagiyev, head of Azerbaijan's State Security Service.

Konečný led a Slovak delegation to Azerbaijan, where discussions with Nagiyev covered several pressing issues of mutual interest. The signing ceremony, which followed these high-level talks, marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral security ties.

This agreement builds upon the strengthening relationship between Slovakia and Azerbaijan in recent years. The two countries have seen increased high-level engagement, including Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico signing a declaration on establishing a strategic partnership with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku in 2024. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also visited Azerbaijan last week, further cementing their status as friendly nations and strategic partners.

The expanded cooperation is expected to cover various sectors, including energy, modern technologies, and defense, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.
